POSTNATAL DOULA

Postnatal support comes in all different ways. A Postnatal doula can come into your home and help you to transition in this new phase of life. There's so much to learn, and on top of that you've had interrupted sleep and recovering from labour or possibly major abdominal surgery if you had a c-section. Talk about being thrown in at the deep end! Even if this is a second child, the challenges are different from the first, there’s no napping when the baby naps this time, or maybe the baby doesn’t nap? Years ago, and still in traditional societies, women were supported totally for the first 40 days after birth. They were allowed to just spend time with the baby , and every thing else, such as caring for the other children, food prep, housekeeping were all taken care of by the other women in the community. A postnatal doula can help to fill the support gaps that are evident in our society. She can help you to learn skills, tricks and tips to become confident and secure in your parenting abilities ! She believes that you’ve got what it takes to be the best parent for this child! She believes in listening to your natural intuition, and presents evidence based information so you can make the best decisions and develop good coping strategies. Sometimes, you just need to have someone hold the baby while you shower, and make you lunch and a cup of tea. A postnatal doula’s role is to mother the mother and foster confidence in the mother/baby connection.
