You’ve been waiting for this day since the stick turned blue - that day you tested positive for pregnancy! What a life changing moment that was. Wow, this is really happening! Perhaps you’ve been waiting much longer than that! Perhaps your pregnancy has been a breeze or perhaps filled with periods of anxiety. You’ve already been on a journey to get where you are, and your birth experience will be equally unique. You have your preferences and fears, and however that unfolds, having unconditional support, committed to caring for you, is a valuable addition to any birthing woman and partner.

How can a doula help you?
- A doula is there for you! No-one else.
- She respects your preferences for birth and helps you to carry that out.
- If there is a partner present, she facilitates working together to the level of involvement that the partner is comfortable with.
- She has suggestions for helping with the progression of labour, comfort measures during labour, and offers consistent emotional and physical support.
- She helps you trust in your body’s abilities to give birth.
- She is your advocate but does not speak for you. She can help liaise with medical staff so you have a full understanding of information required to make informed decisions throughout the birthing process.
